Greg Todd

Greg Todd, who has won nearly 80 percent of his games as a head coach, enters his seventh season as women's basketball head coach at Morehead State. Todd was named 2017 and 2019 Coach of the Year at the school's annual honors banquet that takes place at the conclusion of each athletic season.

Todd has guided the Eagles to three-straight 20-plus win seasons from 2016-17 to 2018-19, becoming the first head coach in women's basketball program history to lead the program to three straight seasons of 20 or more wins.

Todd's 66 wins from 2016-2019 was the highest win total of any coach in the Ohio Valley Conference in that same span.

In 2018-19, Todd guided the Eagles to a 24-11 (13-5 OVC) mark, guiding the program to the second-highest win total in school history. Morehead State made their second ever appearance in the Women's National Invitational Tournament in 2018-19, advancing to the second round following the program's first-ever postseason victory, a 71-61 victory over the Big 10's Ohio State.

The 2018-19 squad also ranked among the nation's best in a number of categories, ranking fourth in steals, ninth in blocked shots, 10th in blocked shots per game, 13th in turnover margin, 18th in steals per game, 21st in offensive rebounds per game, 22nd in scoring offense, 23rd in rebounds, and 24th in assists.

The 2017-18 squad ranked among the national leaders in rebounding, blocked shots and scoring in putting together a 21-11 scorecard.

In his third season at the helm, Todd guided Morehead State to a 21-10 (11-5 OVC) record. The Eagles reached the 20-win plateau for the seventh time in school history, resulting in the program's first ever appearance in the Women's National Invitation Tournament. 2016-17 also featured a nine-game winning streak – the second-longest in school history – and the team's first invitation to a national postseason tournament since 2009-10.

In 28 seasons as a head coach at the collegiate and high school level, Todd is 646-236 (.732). He enters 2020-21 with 255 NCAA career wins.

Todd has served his entire head coaching career in Kentucky, including eight seasons at Transylvania University in Lexington where he led the Pioneers to four Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) championships and three NCAA Division III Tournament appearances.

Todd, who was a four-time HCAC Coach of the Year, produced a 157-64 (.710) record at Transylvania, highlighted by a 26-3 mark in 2013-14, which set a school record for winning percentage. The Pioneers advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and ranked sixth in the nation in scoring average (84.7). Transylvania also earned the program's first-ever top-25 national ranking.

He guided the Pioneers to the program's first NCAA Tournament berth in 2006-07 and followed up with conference regular-season titles in 2008-09 and 2009-10. He was named HCAC Coach of the Year in 2008-09 and 2009-10, leading the Pioneers to the conference tournament championship in 2008-09. His teams were 32-2 in league games his final two seasons, claiming HCAC regular-season titles.

He mentored HCAC Players of the Year Julie Leach (2006-07), Jackie Distler (2008-09) and Nicole Coffman (2012-13 and 2013-14).

He also spent seven years as head coach at Lexington Catholic High School where he claimed three state titles and won 90 percent of his games. He began his head coaching career at Berea Community School, leading the program to seven 20-win campaigns.

Todd guided Lexington Catholic High School to a 225-26 (.896) mark in seven seasons, reaching the 30-victory plateau five times. He won Kentucky state championships in 2000-01, 2004-05 and 2005-06 and is the first coach in state history in either gender to lead his team to four consecutive state title games. His teams were state runners-up in 2002-03 and 2003-04. The program also won the 11th region title six times.

His 2005-06 squad, which featured five all-state players and seven eventual Division I players, was 35-1 and finished No. 3 in the final USA Today girls high school poll. That still stands as the highest national ranking for a Kentucky boys or girls team. He was named EA Sports National Coach of the Year by StudentSports.com.

11 of his players earned Division I scholarships and 20 moved on to play college basketball. He coached notable Division I student-athletes Natalie Novosel (Notre Dame), Keyla Snowden (Kentucky), and Nikki Davis (Alabama and Virginia Tech). Novosel was Notre Dame's leading scorer during its 2010-11 run to the national championship game. Snowden helped guide UK to Elite Eight appearances in 2009-10 and 2011-12. Davis is a former assistant coach at Morehead State.

During his time at Lexington Catholic, Todd also served as the school's athletic director from 2002-06.

On Oct. 25, 2019, Todd was inducted into the Lexington Catholic Hall of Fame.

Todd, a native of Berea, Ky., led his alma mater Berea Community School to the 20-win standard every season despite never accomplishing that feat before in school history. The 1997-98 squad was 29-6 and advanced to the final four of the state's Sweet 16 Tournament.

Before his time as a head coach, Todd was a standout player at Berea. The 1978 graduate is still the school's all-time scoring and rebounding leader with 1,683 points and 966 boards.

On Sept. 28, 2019, Todd was inducted as a member of the first-ever class into the Berea Athletic Hall of Fame. He received inductions both as a player and coach.

On July 22, 2017, Todd was made a member of the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame in Elizabethtown, Ky.

Todd graduated from Eastern Kentucky University. He and his wife, Renee, have three children, Brooke, Katie, and Robert (Robby).

Brooke finished her MSU career in 2017-18 ranked second in career blocked shots and won the department's Laughlin-Miller Award as the best all-around student-athlete before graduating in 2018. Katie is currently a student at Morehead State and is an active member in several student organizations at the university.
