David Williams

David Williams is in his seventh year as the head softball coach at Morehead State. The Greensboro, N.C., native, has guided the Eagles to OVC Tournament appearances in four of the past five seasons.

With a 4-2 victory at Murray State on March 26, 2017, Williams eclipsed the 300 career victory mark and he is 308-300-1 in 12 seasons overall.

In 2017, Williams led Morehead State to a 26-22 record, marking their first winning season since 2010. Sophomore Allison Rager and junior Kylie Holton were named First Team All-OVC, while junior Chelsea McManaway was named to the All-Newcomer team. McManaway was twice named OVC Player of the Week, while Rager and Holton also earned OVC Player of the Week honors.

In 2016, he led Morehead State to a 26-27 record and a 12-12 OVC mark. They downed Tennessee Tech in the OVC Tournament, 2-1, to claim their first tournament win since 2009. Sophomore Robyn Leighton was named to the All-OVC Second Team, while freshman Allison Rager was named to the All-OVC Newcomer Team. Leighton was twice named OVC Player of the Week, while Rager earned OVC Pitcher of the Week honors after throwing back-to-back shutouts.

Morehead State's softball program registered a 3.51 grade point average and earned the OVC Team Academic Award in 2015-16. Sixteen softball student-athletes were named to the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll.

In 2015, Williams led Morehead State to a 22-24 overall record and an 11-11 OVC mark. Freshman Mackenzie Grossman was twice named OVC Pitcher of the Week and OVC Newcomer of the Week. Senior Tanna Seuferer was also named Pitcher of the Week.  

In 2013, Williams led Morehead State to a 24-25 overall record and 10-14 mark in OVC play. The 2013 edition finished the season with a .311 batting average, which ranked 22nd in the nation.

Nine times under the direction of Williams, a player has received All-OVC honors.

Williams led the softball program at Mars Hill (N.C.) for six seasons and saw unprecedented success. The Lions had five consecutive winning seasons and earned a trip to the NCAA Division II Regionals in 2010. While leading the Lions, Williams earned 2007 South Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year honors and his teams boasted one All-American, seven All-Region and 14 All-SAC selections. The 2007, 2008 and 2010 teams finished the year ranked among the top-10 in the region.

In 2007, in just his second year, he guided MHC to a school-record 34-22 season, compiling the first winning season in school history. He upped the success rate in 2008 as the Lions posted a 39-16 mark. He won 26 games in 2009, 29 in 2010 and 29 in 2011. In six years, he totaled a 179-132 record. In 2010, his team ranked second in the nation in defense.

All six of his Mars Hill teams also combined for 3.0 grade point averages or better, including his 2010 team which posted a 3.54 mark to rank as the highest GPA of any team sport in the SAC.

Prior to leading Mars Hill, Williams spent three seasons as the head softball coach at Western Guilford High School. He also led the North Carolina Sundevils 18-and-under fastpitch softball travel team.

Williams played baseball at Division II school Belmont Abbey (N.C.) in 1996 and 1997 and Division III program Emory and Henry (Va.) in 1998. He and his wife, Jennifer, have one daughter, Adley, and two sons, Brantley and Berkley.
