OVC Academic Medal of Honor Release
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- A school-record 24 Morehead State student-athletes have been awarded a 2015-16 Ohio Valley Conference Academic Medal of Honor. The previous high was 21 in 2012-13.
Women's track & field and volleyball led the way with four Medal of Honor award winners, while women's basketball and men's cross country had three. Women's cross country and men's track & field also had multiple recipients.
Overall, 245 Ohio Valley Conference student-athletes earned the OVC Academic Medal of Honor for the 2015-16 academic year. The OVC Academic Medal of Honor is given annually to the student-athletes who achieve the highest grade point average in a conference-sponsored sport. Every Academic Medal of Honor recipient for the 2015-16 academic year carried a 4.0 grade point average.
The 245 recipients shattered the previous record of 212 honors from the 2012-13 academic year. Over the past five years, 1,025 student-athletes have earned the OVC Academic Medal of Honor.
On Wednesday,
126 Morehead State student-athletes earned a spot on the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll for carrying a 3.25 grade point average or higher last academic year.
The league will announce the winner of the Academic Achievement Award and Team Academic Achievement Awards on Friday.
