A.L. Dawson was Morehead State’s track and cross country coach from 1973-78. He was named the Ohio Valley Conference Track Coach of the Year in 1974.
Dawson led the 1977 MSU squad to the OVC Indoor Championship. Among the athletes that he coached was All-American and MSU Athletic Hall of Fame member Bobby Jones. Dawson also assisted with the MSU football staff in 1976-77.
Dawson’s greatest honor while at Morehead State is having the track that is at Jayne Stadium named after him.
“Buck” has been a tremendous coach where ever he has been at. Dawson has been inducted into six other Halls of Fame across the country; one at West Virginia State College and his most successful stop at Florida Southern College. At FSC, he led his cross country teams to 22 postseason NCAA events.
