Henry Akin was a member of the Eagle men's basketball team.
Akin, originally from Troy, Mich., was an All-OVC selection both seasons (1963-64 and 1964-65) he played for Head Coach Bob Laughlin. He led Morehead State in rebounding both seasons with averages of 11.5 and 12.5. Akin ranked second on the team in scoring both years with averages of 22.2 and 18.6, coming in only behind current Hall of Famer Harold Sergent. He ranked in the OVC’s top 10 for scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage and free throw accuracy both seasons.
Akin was selected by the New York Knicks in the second round (11th overall) of the 1966 NBA Draft and played for the Knicks in 1966–67. He was selected by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 1967 NBA Expansion Draft and played for that organization in 1967–68. He also played in the American Basketball Association for the Kentucky Colonels in 1968–69.
