Bobby Laughlin was the head men’s basketball coach at Morehead State from 1953-1965. During his 12 year tenure the Eagles mounted a 66-120 record with a .581 winning percentage. Laughlin’s teams shared first place in the Ohio Valley Conference four different seasons and he coached his way to three 19-win campaigns.

Laughlin’s 1955-56 squad set the school record for the most lopsided win (138-70 over Centre) and highest scoring team (95.9 average). He coached three All-Americans and 11 All-OVC players and was the first MSU basketball coach to receive OVC Coach of the Year honors. He also led three different teams to the NCAA Tournament.

A native of Mt. Sterling, Ky., Laughlin saw his 1956-57 team lead the nation in rebounding with 1,735 boards. Known for his fast-break offensive teams, Laughlin has five of his former players in the elite 1,000 point club for MSU.

The Laughlin Health Building was built and named in his honor in the late 1960’s.
