Robin (Harmon) Newsome played basketball for the women’s team from 1978-82. She was four-year letterwinner in basketball. Newsome was an outstanding shooting guard for the Eagles.
Newsome was a highly talented basketball player coming out of high school. She averaged more than 33 points per game, totaling 3,050 points in her four years of high school. She was a member of the Kentucky All Star team and got invited to the USA National Junior Team tryouts.
A native of Lovely, Ky., Newsome ranked fourth on MSU’s all-time scoring list and fifth on MSU’s all-time assist list at the time of her induction. She led the Eagles in assists in 1978-79 with 127. During her career at MSU, her teams went 86-36. She scored 34 points against Brigham Young (BYU) and 31 against Northern Kentucky (NKU) during her 1980-81 campaign.
