Walt Rybka headed the Morehead State Rifle program from the 1995-96 season through the 2013-14 season. He guided Elizabeth Lyon in 2009 and Ethan Cole in 2014, to the NCAA Championships.

Rybka was named OVC Coach of the Year twice (1997-98 and 1999-2000) and guided Morehead State to a national ranking during several seasons as the Eagles' head coach.

During his tenure, numerous athletes won conference and national rifle awards, and his 1998-99 squad earned the best GPA among all collegiate teams.

Rybka is not only a superior coach, but he is also a fine competitor. First competing in Pistol at 13, he continued competing and in 1997 was crowned the Kentucky State Air Pistol Champion.

He started shooting Smallbore rifle at age 13 with the Plymouth Police Youth Club Shooting program and became a competitive Pistol shooter at age 21, competing in Air Pistol and Precision Pistol. Rybka achieved an expert ranking in both events and earned a Distinguished Pistol Rating in 1991.

Rybka was a member of the UltraDot Pistol Team and the OHINKY Pistol Team. He is a life member of both the National Rifle Association and the Kentucky State Rifle and Pistol Association. He is also currently an active member of the Kentucky Longrifles Club of Morehead.

Rybka continues to be a vital part of the Eagles' current success, lending support by serving as range director for home matches and helping upgrade the facilities in Button Range.
