Walt Terrell played baseball for Morehead State from 1977-1980. After his playing days at MSU he went on to have a long successful career in Major League Baseball, primarily with the Detroit Tigers.

Terrell compiled a 13-12 record and was MSU’s number one starting pitcher during his career. He earned All-Ohio Valley Conference honors in 1979 and was a member of Morehead State’s 1977 NCAA Tournament team.

Terrell was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 1980 amateur draft. He went on to be a starting pitcher in the majors for 11 years from 1982 to 1992. He played for five teams while in the big leagues, with the majority being for the Detroit Tigers.  He retired at the end of the 1992 season.
