GAME NOTES
Retribution may be the theme of Morehead State’s Saturday night game against Louisiana Monroe. Last year the Eagles surrendered a 15-point lead and lost when Tony Hooper hit a lay-up with four seconds left for ULM’s first and only lead of the game. That was the only time the two teams have met previously.
Tip-off for this year’s affair is at 7:30 p.m.
Morehead State is1-1 following a win over Brescia Monday in its home opener. Junior
Kenneth Faried got his first double-double (24 points, 15 rebounds) of the season in that game and
Terrance Hill scored 12 points for MSU. Faried’s scoring average is over 20 and his rebounding average is at 11.0. The under-recognized player from the Brescia game was senior point guard
Brandon Shingles who’s seven points didn’t grab attention, but his seven assists and five steals set up several Eagles scores.
ULM will be a good test for the Eagles, who play their Conference opener during the first week of December. The Warhawks are 1-2 but played No. 17 Oklahoma tight, losing by just 11 points on Tuesday. Hooper is again a threat to the Eagles, leading ULM with 15.3 points per game. Tommie Sykes is the Warhawks top rebounder, pulling down 5.3 boards per game. The one facet of ULM’s game that may work to Morehead’s advantage is its turnovers. While the Warhawk’s turnover margin isn’t bad, they surrender the ball 19.3 times per game, 10 more per game than MSU.
After Saturday, the Eagles will take a week-long break from games for the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to action Sunday, Nov. 29 for a home game against Kent State. That game will be televised by Wazoo Sports.
