Women's Golf Holds On To Third To Wrap Up Fall Season

PINEHURST, N.C. – The Morehead State women’s golf team shot a second round score of 305 to finish in third place at the Pinehurst Challenge which was held at the 6,004-yard, par 72 Pinehurst #6 in Pinehurst, N.C. Morehead State finished behind Western Carolina who took second with a score of 592 and tournament host College of Charleston who won the event with a low score of 584.

MSU sophomore Emma Jonsson bested her day one performance of 76 and shot a team-low 73 to finished with a 149 to lead the Eagles and tie for 13th overall. Freshman Marisa Kamelgarn shot a day two score of 77 and finished just one stroke behind Jonsson with a 150, good for a tie for 16th place.

Senior Darlene Bognot, MSU’s day one leader, finished with an 80 on day two, to card a 152 and tie for 21st overall. Junior Paige Lausier’s round two 78 placed her tied fro 28th overall with a final score of 155. Sophomore Emma Eksell improved five strokes over her day one score of 82 by firing a 77 on day two for a final score of 159, placing her tied for 45th.

Other OVC schools that competed in the event were Eastern Kentucky who finished fifth with a 609 and Jacksonville State who finished in a tie for eighth place with a 618.

The tournament wrapped up Morehead State’s fall season, MSU’s most successful fall ever. The Eagles finished first or tied for first three times (two tournaments and one tri-match).
