Morehead State Radio Broadcaster Matt Andrews Promoted By Bats

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Morehead State radio broadcaster Matt Andrews has been promoted to Director of Broadcasting for the Louisville Bats the club announced Monday. Andrews had been the Assistant Director of Broadcasting for the AAA Bats.

“This is an exciting opportunity for me both personally and professionally,” Andrews said. “The chance to be the lead voice for the Bats, a club that has been a home for me for the past seven seasons, is outstanding. It also allows me to continue my career at Morehead State, so it really is the best of both worlds for me.”

Andrews, who shares his time between the Bats and Morehead State basketball, will continue his MSU duties as women’s basketball play-by-play announcer and men’s basketball color analyst. Andrews has also worked selected Eagle football games.

“Matt’s skill as a broadcaster is evident as soon as you listen to one of his calls,” said Brian Hutchinson, Morehead State Director of Athletics. “His promotion is well-deserved and we are fortunate he’s able split his time between the Bats and our programs.”

He took over as Louisville's Director of Broadcasting after joining the Bats in 2003 as former Director Jim Kelch's radio partner. Kelch was recently hired by the Cincinnati Reds, Louisville’s Major League Affiliate. Andrews was hired by the Bats after spending two years with the Chillicothe Paints in the Independent Frontier League.

"We are pleased to announce that Matt Andrews has been promoted to Director of Broadcasting and will be our lead radio announcer," said Bats President Gary Ulmer of Andrews’ appointment. "Matt is very talented and is well prepared to assume additional responsibilities within our organization."

Andrews called numerous athletic events for his alma mater, Ohio State, with the OSU student radio station, including Ohio State's National Championship in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl.
