Eagle Women's Golf Leads UC Fall Invitational After First Round

BATAVIA, Ohio—The Morehead State women’s golf team is in first place after Monday’s first round at the University of Cincinnati Fall Invitational, being played at the par-72, 6,186-yard Elks Run Golf Course. Second round play was suspended due to darkness.

The Eagles shot a 313 in the first round, led by freshman Marisa Kamelgarn’s 75. Kamelgarn, last week’s Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, is in third place, just one stroke off the two leaders.

Two more MSU golfers cracked the top 15. Sophomore Emma Jonsson is tied for fifth overall with a 77 and sophomore Emma Eksell is tied for 14th with a 79.

Junior Paige Lausier tied for 34th and senior Darlene Bognot tied for 51st with an 82 and an 85 respectively to round out the MSU scoring. Morehead State junior Lynn Grunkemeyer and sophomore Karolina Tunstig are also playing, competing as individuals. Grunkemeyer shot an 83 to tie for 41st and Tunstig’s 88 was good for a tie for 59th.

The Eagles hold a one-stroke lead over second place Xavier and third place Akron is just two strokes behind. Murray State (fourth place-317) and Eastern Kentucky (11th place-340) were the other two OVC schools in the 14-team field.

The suspended second round will resume Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. prior to the beginning of the scheduled third and final round.
