TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Morehead State Rifle team was right on target this weekend, as they shot a season best versus Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
Coming off of their tough loss against Columbus State, the Eagles demonstrated their talents by posting commanding scores in both smallbore and air rifle categories.
In air rifle, all five Eagles turned in scores over 570, and were led by junior Elizabeth Lyon’s team high score of 581. Right behind Lyon was fellow teammate Mary Saenger with a score of 580, and Shawn Holley with a 578. Rounding out the top five in the air rifle portion of the match were freshman Rob Gagliani (573), and sophomore Katie Bush (571). As a team, the Eagles shot a final score of 2312.
While the air rifle portion may have been the highlight of the weekend for the Eagles, the smallbore scores were equally as impressive. Holley and Seanger both shot a team high score of 567, while Lyon added a 562. Gagliani and sophomore Justin Egan finished with the final two scores, registering 559, and 547 respectively.
As a team, the Eagles fired a team best 2255 in the smallbore category, giving them a weekend total of 4567, easily beating Rose-Hulman’s final number of 4320.
The Eagle Rifle squad will get back to the range this weekend, when they host UT Martin on Saturday afternoon. Details of the match will be posted.
