OVC Championship Program
MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Morehead State men’s and women’s cross country teams will be competing in their most anticipated event of the season this coming Saturday, the 2010 OVC Cross Country Championship in Cookeville, Tenn.
Head Coach
Tommy Barksdale has stressed the importance in the preparation of this event, and has worked hard to shape the overall mindset of the Eagles all season.
“This is what we train for all season,” said Barksdale, “We use our previous performances and success as an indicator of where we need to be at this point in the season, and I think our continued improvement as a group is a very good sign we’re ready to compete in the OVC Championship.”
Thought to be the most important race in the Eagles’ schedule, the Championship will feature teams they have seen quite often in races throughout the circuit, including Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Illinois, and Southeast Missouri.
The men’s squad is coming off a trip to the Pre-Nationals two weeks ago where senior #Josh Wakeman# led the Eagles with an 8K time of 26:04.8. The Eagles lineup will also feature senior #Ron Duncan#, who missed last year's meet with an injury but finished seventh at the Championship in 2008.
On the women’s side, the Eagles have finished sixth at each of the past two OVC Championships. Junior #Liz Braunwart# was 18th at the Evansville Invitational two weeks ago, the last meet the Eagles competed in.
The race is set to start with the women’s 5K at 9 a.m. CT, with the men’s 8K race following at 9:45 a.m. CT. Final results will be posted at the conclusion of the race, and race details can be found by visiting the links provided.
