Eagle Rifle Edged Out in Weekend Doubleheader

MOREHEAD, Ky. – In a crucial weekend doubleheader at home, and with a chance to win three straight duel matches, the Morehead State Rifle team fell short against conference rival UT Martin and Ohio State.

Hosting Ohio State first, the Eagles shot well, posting a team aggregate of 4533. In air rifle, Mary Saenger led the way with her team best 579, while Elizabeth Lyon chipped in with her 577. As a squad, the Eagles shot an aggregate of 2275 to OSU’s 2306.

In smallbore, the Eagles were fairly consistent across the board, averaging 562 per shooter, and turning in a 2258 as a team. Leading the way individually were Lyon and Rob Gagliani, who both posted scores of 568. Shawn Holley had a 563.
 
The final score versus Ohio State ended in a loss, 4603-4533.
 
Looking to bounce back against UT Martin, the Eagles improved their scores in both sections but fell just six points short of the Skyhawks in the end.
 
Lyon led the Eagles in both smallbore and air rifle with her scores of 571 and 577, respectively. Justin Egan contributed nicely with his smallbore score of 560, and Saenger once again shot well, firing a 572 in the air rifle portion.
 
The final score versus UT Martin also ended in a nailbiting loss, 4551-4546.

The Morehead State rifle team will be back on the range this Saturday when they travel to Jacksonville State University.
