Men 10K Results
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – In their final race of the 2010 season, the Eagle cross country teams gave it all they had in one of the most competitive fields they faced all season.
Running the E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park course, a course they had previously ran during the Greater Louisville Classic, the women’s team started things off with their 6K race. Representing the Eagles with another team-leading performance was junior Liz Braunwart, as she broke the tape in 24:10.2. Braunwart was the top finisher in all six events that the women’s team ran in this season.
Also finishing strong for the Eagles were freshman Parker Winters, with her time of 24:43.1, and sophomore Holly Mandzak at 24:55.6.
“I thought the girls ran hard today, and I’m proud of how they performed all season,” said coach Tommy Barksdale. “I thought it was a good way to end the season, now we’ll take a little time off then start getting ready for track.”
Other notables on the women side were Kate Bomar (25:08.7), Amanda Faust (25:33.3), Natalie Norman (25:39.1), and Lyndsay Norris (27:34.1).
Once the women’s 6K race was concluded, the men lined up for their 10K race against a field that included six teams nationally ranked in the NCAA.
Leading the men’s squad was senior Josh Wakeman, who finished with a time of 33:31.5. Wakeman concluded a very successful senior cross-country season as one of their leaders and most consistent runners. Also turning in nice times for the men were James Bowens and Ron Duncan.
Bowens posted a time of 33:49.7, while Duncan finished in 33:54.8. Both brought tremendous leadership all season to the Eagles, and have had several impressive performances this season.
“The men ran as hard as they could today,” said Barksdale. “I am proud of the men for their hard work this season, and for not backing down from the tough competition this race featured.”
Rounding out the team times for the men included Michael Settles (34:45.4), Matt Dotson (35:17.3), Jeffery Covington (35:28.8), and Chase Ratliff (35:58.9).
Track and Field season will start in the spring for the Eagles when they travel to the Early Bird Relays hosted by the Cincinnati, Mar. 18.
