Eagle Rifle Falls to Jacksonville State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Morehead State rifle team traveled to Jacksonville State this past weekend, where they were defeated in their fifth match of the 2010 season.

The Eagles dug themselves into a hole early, leaving several chances on the table to make up ground in the smallbore portion of the event. Sophomore Rob Gagliani registered the top smallbore score with his 570, while Mary Saenger continued her solid freshman season with a 565.

Other smallbore scores included Elizabeth Lyon (555), Justin Egan (556), and Shawn Holley (551).

Looking to make up ground in the air rifle portion, the Eagles were simply overmatched from the start, watching three Jacksonville State shooters post 577 or better, with a team score of 2317. Leading the way for the Eagles was Holley, who fired a 583 - good for second best in the match - and Lyon with her 580. She improved her season average to a stellar 577.

Rounding out the top five in air rifle included Saenger (579), Gagliani (552), and Egan (558).

Jacksonville went on to score 2293 in smallbore, for a total aggregate of 4610. Final score of the match was 4610-4546.

The Eagles will be back in action against Nov. 13, when they host Virginia Military Institute.
