Eagle Men Ready To Defend Streaks Against Tech

GAME NOTES | LIVE STATS | LISTEN LIVE | LIVE VIDEO

MOREHEAD, Ky.--
Flying high after three non-conference wins, two of those over programs ranked in the Mid-Major poll, the Morehead State men’s basketball team shift gears back into conference mode Thursday.

The Eagles welcome in Tennessee Tech Thursday, looking to offset their most recent Ohio Valley Conference games, a pair of road overtime losses at Austin Peay and Tennessee State. Game time against TTU is set for 7:45, following the women’s basketball game against the Golden Eagles. Fans that bring in canned goods will get $1 off of a general admission ticket to the game.

After the three wins last week, MSU is 9-6 and 2-2 in the OVC, with a 22-game home winning streak, which is tied for the fifth longest in Division I. There’s also the current home conference win streak (20 games) and the current win streak (three games) to defend Thursday as well.

Seniors Demonte Harper and Kenneth Faried combined for 48 points and 23 rebounds against a very good College of Charleston game, but it was the Eagle defense that was the real story last week. In two of the three games, MSU held Kent State and CofC’s leading scorers, who combined for 42.2 points (18.1 and 24.1 respectively), to just nine total points between them in the two games (2 and 7 respectively).

So Morehead State will turn those defensive efforts to Kevin Murphy, Tech’s leading scorer at 13.1 points per game. But the Golden Eagles present a unique challenge for Donnie Tyndall’s defense efforts. The next four scorers after Murphy each average over nine points a game, meaning TTU coach Mike Sutton has a bevy of scoring options. He seems to be using those options too, 10 different players have started games for the Golden Eagles this season.

Tech is 6-6 overall and 2-1 in the OVC, with wins over Jacksonville State, Eastern Illinois and SIU Edwardsville as well as three non-Division I schools.

After the showdown with TTU, Morehead State will host Jacksonville State Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
