Westerfield Named Assistant AD for External Affairs; Carver Promoted to Assistant AD

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Darian Westerfield has been named assistant athletic director for external affairs at Morehead State, while Jamey Carver has been promoted to assistant AD and director of sports medicine.

Westerfield joins the MSU athletics staff after serving in similar positions at Indiana State, Western Kentucky, Northern Illinois, Memphis, Missouri and Evansville.

Westerfield most recently served as Indiana State’s assistant AD for development, where he oversaw fundraising efforts, an annual fund and capital projects. 

Westerfield was instrumental in increasing annual giving by 15 percent in three years.  He also spearheaded ISU’s baseball stadium renovation project and created a suite area for basketball, which generated $10,000 in new revenue.

Prior to his time with the Sycamores, Westerfield spent three years at Western Kentucky as the Hilltopper Athletic Foundation’s associate director.  He coordinated WKU’s 16 suites in E.A. Diddle Arena and was the point person on WKU’s Big Red Vette Raffle fundraiser, which generated $130,000 annually.

Westerfield also coordinated the department’s special events, including the HAF Golf Classic and membership dinner, the student-athlete Thank-a-Thon and fan trips.  He also assisted in the sale of more than 800 club seats for Hilltopper football.

Westerfield was the assistant director of development at Northern Illinois during the 2004-05 school year.  He coordinated NIU’s courtesy car program and oversaw the student Huskie Club, a donor group for young alums. 

During his time with the Huskies, Westerfield ran the Letterman’s Club and managed more than 1,000 annual fund donors, raising $1,036,000 annually and assisting with a $7 million dollar capital campaign to construct an academic and athletic performance center.

Westerfield spent two years as an athletic annual giving coordinator at Memphis.  In just two years, he helped raise more than $9 million dollars and increased the athletic endowment by more than $150,000.  He was also heavily involved in the Pyramid’s re-seating campaign in 2002.

Prior to his time with the Tigers, Westerfield served as a development associate at Missouri (2001-2002) and a business and operations assistant at Evansville (2000-01).  In 1999-2000, he was an operations manager for the Regional Sports Authority in Shreveport, La.

Westerfield earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and public administration from Lindenwood University in 1997. He was a member of LU’s wrestling team and president of the Student Government Association.  He then earned a master’s degree in public administration from Missouri State in 1999.

Carver has served in a variety of roles in the MSU sports medicine department, first joining the staff as an intern before being elevated to assistant athletic trainer.  He was promoted to head trainer for men’s sports three years ago, and will now take on additional administrative duties as an assistant AD.

Carver oversees a large staff of assistant athletic trainers, graduate assistants and undergraduate student trainers.  His primary sport responsibility is football

A former graduate assistant in athletic training at Kentucky, Carver earned a master's degree in kinesiology from UK.  His bachelor’s degree was in exercise science and came from Northwestern State.

Carver and his wife, Brandy, have two daughters.  He is also a regional representative for the Kentucky Athletic Trainer’s Society.
