MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State men’s basketball team will play its first home game in over two weeks when Mid-Continent (Ky.) visits Johnson Arena on Sunday at 4 p.m. ET. The Division I Eagles are 3-5 on the season, while the NAIA Cougars are 1-9 overall.
The game will be broadcast on the Eagle Sports Network, which includes four affiliates in Eastern Kentucky and MSUEagles.com.
Morehead State has split its last four games. The Eagles own wins over Asbury (Ky.), West Alabama and Princeton this season.
Mid-Continent has dropped three straight contests after picking up its only win of the campaign over Ohio Mid-Western.
Morehead State is led by senior Terrance Hill (14.5 ppg), junior Milton Chavis (5.1 rpg) and senior Lamont Austin (2.5 apg). Senior Ty Proffitt paced the Eagles with 14 points at Bucknell and 13 more at Kent State.
Mid-Continent is led by sophomore Maurice Bynum (13.8 ppg), freshman Charles Peden (6.1 rpg) and junior Marcus Johnson (2.6 apg). Bynum tallied 23 points in Friday’s setback to IU-Southeast, while Peden added 22.
Donnie Tyndall is in his sixth season as the head coach at Morehead State (99-75, .569) and his seventh season in charge of a college basketball program (129-80, .617).
Winston Bennett, a former NBA player and assistant coach, is in his fifth season as the head coach at Mid-Continent (62-79, .440) and his seventh year in charge of a college basketball program (106-122, .465). Bennett played four years at the University of Kentucky in the 1980s and was an assistant coach for UK’s national championship team in 1996.
School records show that Morehead State and Mid-Continent have never met in a regular-season men’s basketball game.
