OXFORD, Ohio – After a long delay due to storms in the area, the final day of the Miami (OH) Invitational got underway Saturday afternoon with the Eagles looking to continue their successful season.
There were more personal bests recorded this week, once again. Among personal bests was also another MSU record broken by junior #
James Bowens# in men's 5,000 meter run. Bowens ran an impressive time of 14:47.5, good for second best. #
Chase Ratliff# also showed a personal best in the event with a time of 16:07.20.
In the 200 meter dash, #
Morgan Sorrell# chalked up a time of 25.21, good for his personal best while #
Jeffrey Covington# posted a personal best of 2:00.45 in the 800 meter run. #
Alexx Bernard# also showed well in the 800 meter run, notching a 12th place finish with time of 1:55.58.
MSU had a good performance in the triple jump, finishing ninth with #
Sean Blair#, who recorded personal best at the 12.53 meter mark.
Other notables on the men's side of things were #
JT Stone# and #
Jake Elliott#. Stone continued his great start to the season with a 15.33 meter shot put and 45.51 meter throw in the discus, both good for 15th place. Elliott bested his personal best records in discus (43.22m); shot put (12.76m); and hammer throw (42.00m).
On the women's side, #
Liz Braunwart# posted a 33rd place finish in the women's 5,000 meter run with a time of 19:28.22; good enough for her personal best. Freshman #
Melissa Bull# posted a personal best with a mark of 1.48 meters in the high jump, the same mark as Eagle teammate #
Shelby Brickey#.
“We are still heading in the right direction,” said coach Tommy Barksdale. “And our competition level is where it needs to be at this point in time.”
Men's and women's four by 400 relays were canceled due to rain.
The Eagles will be back in action for two more tournaments before the OVC Championships start in May. Next up for MSU is the Eastern Kentucky Open held in Richmond, Ky. April 15.
