MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State track and field split and competed in two different events last weekend. Standout upper classmen Josh Wakemen and
JT Stone competed at the 45th annual Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn., while several other MSU tracksters competed at the Bellermine Invitational in Lousiville, Ky.
The Bellermine action was highlighted by freshman
Miranda Nelson breaking the school record in the hammer throw, a record she had already set earlier in the season. Nelson placed fifth with a throw of 41.27 meters. She followed that performance with a personal best of 12.33 meters in the shot put to win the event.
Alyssa Arnold also had a strong showing for MSU, placing second in the shot put of 11.53 meters. Hilary Jamison also contributed, placing fourth in the women's high jump, clearing a height of 1.52 meters.
The lone male competitor for MSU at Bellermine was
Josh Alford, who had a personal best day in the hammer throw to place sixth with a toss of 39.75 meters.
At the Sea Ray Relays, Wakeman and Stone dealt with torrential rains to compete strong in one of the most competitive shot put and 10k fields in the country. Stone placed with a shot put of 15.06 meters to place sixth. Wakeman powered through the rain to run a 32:04.9 to place 10th.
The team will again be in split squad action this weekend with members competing at the Jesse Owens Classic at Ohio State University in Columbus and the Polytan Invitational at Indiana University in Bloomington, as many individuals chase east regional qualifying times.
