OXFORD, Ohio – Morehead State track and field had a strong showing today at the Redhawk Invitational hosted by Miami (Ohio) University, posting several more personal bests with huge days in discus and shot put competitions.
Freshman #
Miranda Nelson# threw a distance of 13.67 meters in shot put, placing fourth and shattering her personal best record. #
Jake Elliott# also had a great day in discus competition, throwing a mark of 45.50 meters and besting his personal record by over three meters. Elliott finished ninth in the event.
The 1500 meter runs were a success for the Eagles. #
Kate Bomar# led the Eagles on the women's side with a sporty 5:22 mark, good enough for 10
th place. Junior #Michael Settles# saw action in the men's 1500 meter and finished ninth with a time of 4:13. #
Jeffrey Covington# was right on his teammate's heels with a 4:12, placing him 10
th in the run.
“Even with a lot of the team competing in events different from those they will compete in next week for the Ohio Valley Conference Championship they came out with strong finishes,” said coach Tommy Barksdale. “Everyone competed great and it was what we were looking for heading into next week.”
The Eagles head to Murray, Ky., for the OVC Championships and a chance to advance to the NCAA East Regionals in Bloomington, Ind. Events will be May 6-7, check back for more news and results.
