MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Redshirt senior Emma Keough totaled 14 kills and hit .542, and redshirt freshman Laura McDermott tallied seven blocks as the Morehead State volleyball team shook off a set two setback to hand visiting Austin Peay a 3-1 loss (25-16, 21-25, 25-20, 25-17) Saturday at Wetherby Gym.
The Eagles moved to 7-5 overall and 2-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference, winning their 19th league match in the last 20 times on the court. APSU slunked to 2-10 and 0-2 in the OVC.
Keough was one of three Eagles in double digit kills as she connected on 14 kills off 24 swings, making just one error for a season high .542 attack efficiency. Junior Ellie Roberson also smashed 14 kills, while redshirt sophomore Aryn Bohannon had 12 kills and 11 digs. McDermott, who had 16 kills Friday night against Tennessee State, landed eight spikes today and hit .300 while adding seven block assists.
The Eagles topped the Lady Govs as well in digs, 63-49. Leslie Schellhaas had a match high 18 ups, while Liz Schuler totaled 14.
Austin Peay's Lauren Henderson matched McDermott in the block column with seven, while Nikki Doyle (12) and Ilyanna Hernandez (11) led APSU in kills.
The Eagles were smoking in the first set, landing 15 kills while making just two errors as they ran away for a 25-16 win. Set two wasn't as easy. The Lady Govs responded by notching 12 kills and hitting .258, while the Eagles committed nine attack errors and fell 25-21.
MSU came out after the intermission and turned up the intensity. The Eagles had 14 kills and forced APSU into just eight kills and seven errors as McDermot had four blocks in the set.
In the final set, MSU hammered in 17 kills and hit .389 while pulling away late for a 25-17 win.
MSU returns to league action on Wednesday, Sept. 21 hosting Eastern Kentucky at 7p.m.
