Rifle Falls at Jacksonville State; Defeats Columbus State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Morehead State rifle team traveled to Jacksonville State last weekend for a pair of matches against No. 5 and host JSU and No. 18 Columbus State.

MSU came away with a defeat at the hands of JSU and a victory over CSU.

The Eagles dropped their first match at JSU, 4,654-4,551. The top-five air rifle shooters came from the Gamecocks roster, while the Eagles’ top performer in the event was junior Mary Saenger with a score of 573.

Sophomore Ethan Cole also had a strong showing at JSU. He earned a third-place finish in smallbore (576) and placed seventh in air rifle (571).

Other notable performances were freshman Taylor Johnson (571) and sophomore Christian Hashagen (569) in air rifle, and senior Rob Gagliani (570) and Saenger (568) in smallbore.

In the match with Columbus State, the Eagles came away with the 4,536-4,528 victory.

Cole was, once again, one of the Eagles’ strongest competitors as he shot a 571 in smallbore and a 569 in air rifle. Not far behind Cole in smallbore were Saenger (567) and Gagliani (565). Saenger also had the second highest score of the day in air rifle (577).

MSU returns to action on Saturday as it hosts its first home contest of the season against No. 16 UT Martin in the basement of Button Auditorium.
