Conference USA Foe Marshall Next Up for Men's Basketball

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State men's basketball team continues its non-conference slate on Wednesday when it visits Conference USA foe Marshall.  Tip-off from the Cam Henderson Center is set for 7 p.m. ET.

Morehead State, 4-2 overall, registered a 73-67 victory over Norfolk State in its last game on Monday night.  Marshall, 3-3 on the season, posted an 89-82 win over Nevada in its last contest on Saturday evening.

The schools, separated by just one hour on Interstate 64, have played 93 times in men’s hoops, but not since the 2007-08 campaign.  The Thundering Herd owns a 49-44 advantage in the all-time series.

Ten notes heading into the contest:

SIX IN A ROW FOR MILT
Senior Milton Chavis has been Morehead State’s leading scorer in all six games this year.  He knocked down 8-of-15 from the field en route to a game-high 19 points in Monday night’s 73-67 victory over Norfolk State.

DOUBLE TROUBLE
Milton Chavis also pulled down a game-best 10 rebounds against Norfolk State for his second career double-double.  Chavis and senior Kahlil Owens (12/12 at LIU Brooklyn) own Morehead State’s two double-doubles this season.

TAKING A STEP FORWARD
Senior Devon Atkinson is averaging 6.2 points and 4.7 assists in 27.8 minutes this season.  He averaged just 2.5 points and 1.0 assist in 9.3 minutes at this point last year.

LEADING THE CHARGE
Milton Chavis ranks second among Ohio Valley Conference players in steals (2.7), third in scoring (18.5), sixth in field-goal percentage (.556), sixth in three-point accuracy (.500) and 10th in threes made per game (2.2).

OTHER CONFERENCE RANKINGS
Devon Atkinson ranks third among Ohio Valley Conference players in assists (4.7) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.3).  Junior Chad Posthumus places fourth in offensive rebounds (2.5), while Kahlil Owens ranks eighth in field-goal percentage (.545).

HOW ABOUT THE TEAM?
Morehead State leads the Ohio Valley Conference in assists (15.8), steals (11.5) and offensive rebounds (15.2), while ranking third in turnover margin (+3.83).

DOING IT OFF THE BENCH
The Morehead State bench has outscored its opponents, 208 (34.7 pg) to 91 (15.2 pg), this season.  The Eagle reserves have outscored their foes in five of six games to date.

LET’S CALL THEM ON BOTH ENDS
Morehead State has been called for 151 fouls through six games this season, while its opponents have only been whistled for 92 infractions.  The Eagles have attempted just 101 free throws so far, while their foes have gone to the charity stripe 160 times.
