MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Morehead State cross country and track teams are fortunate enough to take advantage of the abundance of trails that surround the Morehead community, but as the teams and others utilize these trails, they often show wear and tear. The Eagle men’s and women’s squads recently teamed with the Environmental Eagles student group on campus to help maintain and repair these outdoor recreation areas.
The Environmental Eagles, led by President Amir Y. Ahmadi, is an undergraduate student group committed to promoting the implementation of sustainable practices at MSU and its surrounding region. Through organization, advocacy, and outreach, they strive to make Morehead State a model campus for environmental stewardship.
“We are proud of the kids for putting in the time they did to help the community,” said first-year MSU Head Coach Brent Ericksen. “The Environmental Eagles were a great group to work with, and I think everyone will enjoy some of the local trails a little more.”
The cross country/track teams worked with members of the Environmental Eagles on three occasions over the winter months. The team was primarily responsible for clearing existing trails of brush, re-routing certain rough trail sections, and making the trails much more accessible to the community.
The Environmental Eagles provided various tools for the trail work, including rakes and shovels. As a group, the MSU teams put in work along trails surrounding Eagle Lake on campus and above Rodburn Park located just east of campus.
