MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Josh Seitz, who recently set Morehead State’s record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, has been named an assistant coach for the cross country and track & field programs.
Seitz, a former distance runner, was mentored by MSU Head Coach Brent Ericksen each of the past four years. He spent four seasons at Southern Oregon (2007-11), including three with Ericksen, before wrapping up his time as a student-athlete at MSU (2011-12).
“I am really excited about continuing to work with Josh,” Ericksen said. “I had the pleasure of coaching Josh at Southern Oregon and here at Morehead State. He was a very successful student-athlete both places. Josh possesses a lot of qualities that will make his transition to coaching very smooth. We are looking forward to all of the positive contributions he will make for our program during the 2012-13 school year.”
A native of Forest Grove, Ore., Seitz was a member of Southern Oregon’s 2010 NAIA cross country national championship team. He also set the Cascade Collegiate Conference steeplechase record.
Seitz served as team captain for both programs at Morehead State this past year and earned Most Valuable Runner honors during his only cross country season with the Eagles.
“I really enjoyed running for Coach Ericksen and I’m looking forward to working with him in this new role,” Seitz said. “I have seen cross country and track & field programs from a student-athlete perspective, and I’m excited to learn about everything that goes on behind-the-scenes from a coaching perspective. I’m hoping to have a long career as a college coach, and I’m thrilled about getting to start it here at Morehead State.”
Seitz graduated from Southern Oregon in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He is currently working on a master’s degree in education at Morehead State.
