MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Sean Williamson, who was most recently on the strength and conditioning staff at the University of Kentucky, has been named the head strength and conditioning coach at Morehead State.
Williamson will be in charge of the strength and conditioning programs for all of MSU’s 16 teams.
A former football standout at the University of Toledo, he heads to MSU after serving the 2011-12 season as assistant strength and conditioning coach for football and basketball at Kentucky.  He helped design and implement strength, speed, agility, flexibility, anaerobic, aerobic and plyometric programs for those two teams at UK.
“Sean is a terrific addition to the Morehead State Athletics family,” said Senior Associate Athletic Director Richard Fletcher, who coordinated the search.  “Sean has a strong background in strength and conditioning, and we were impressed with him throughout the interview process.  As a former Division I football player, he knows what it takes to be successful at this level.  Sean has had a plan for our athletic programs since day one, and we are looking forward to the development of our strength and conditioning department under his leadership.”
Following a football career at Brother Rice (Mich.) High School, Williamson appeared in 42 games on the defensive line at Toledo.  He helped the Rockets to the postseason in 2004 (Motor City Bowl) and 2005 (GMAC Bowl), and was elected team co-captain in 2007 and 2008.  He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Toledo.
"I am excited and blessed to be a part of Morehead State athletics," said Williamson. "It is a privilege to be a part of a winning tradition and a wonderful community. My plans are to continue the success of the strength and conditioning program that (former coach) Kevin Deweese created and build it even further, giving every athlete the best opportunity to compete at their highest athletic potential. With the support of all the staff, coaches, community and fans, I am thrilled to help every program compete at a championship level."
Williamson began his coaching career in strength and conditioning as an undergraduate at Toledo and served in an internship role as well before securing his first full-time position at Lakeland (Mich.) High School.  He was the head strength and conditioning coach as well as an assistant football coach from 2009-11.  He also served as an assistant football coach at Brother Rice during that time.
In 2010, Williamson was promoted at Lakeland to head of the physical education department.  During his time at Lakeland, he also launched his own training facility in Michigan, High Performance Training, L.L.C.
At his facility, Williamson conducted on-site body mass index, body fat and functional movement assessments and personally trained hundreds of athletes.  He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist and also holds certification status for jump stretch.
A native of White Lake, Mich., Williamson attended the United States Air Force Academy in 2002 before transferring to Toledo.  He and his wife, Nicole, have one daughter, Reese.
