Men's Hoops Ready to Square Off With Tennessee Tech

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State men's basketball team continues its Ohio Valley Conference schedule on Saturday when East Division opponent Tennessee Tech visits Johnson Arena at approximately 7:30 p.m. ET.

The Eagles improved to 12-14 overall, 6-6 in league play and 9-4 at home with Thursday's win over Jacksonville State.  The Golden Eagles fell to 9-15 overall, 3-9 in conference action and 3-11 on the road with a loss at Eastern Kentucky.

Morehead State owns a 75-62 advantage in the all-time series vs. Tennessee Tech.  The Eagles and Golden Eagles split last year’s two-game set, with each team winning at home.  MSU has won 10 of the last 11 contests vs. TTU.

Saturday is another OVC doubleheader, with the schools squaring off in women's basketball at 5:15 p.m.  Adult tickets for the twinbill start at just $8.  MSU students are admitted free with a valid student ID.  Parking is just $5 per vehicle.

THE LAST TIME OUT
Morehead State registered 45 bench points and 29 points off turnovers in an 85-81 victory over Jacksonville State on Thursday at Johnson Arena.  The Eagles improved to 12-14 overall, 6-6 in Ohio Valley Conference action and 9-4 at home.

LEADING THE CHARGE
Junior Bakari Turner led five Morehead State players in double figures with 19 points in 23 minutes off the bench vs. Jacksonville State.  He tied his career high by drilling 7-of-9 from the field, including 4-of-5 from three-point range.

THE FLOOR GENERAL
Senior Devon Atkinson registered his best offensive effort in 52 games as an Eagle with 18 points against Jacksonville State.  He made all six free-throw attempts and collected seven assists with no turnovers in 30 minutes.

STUFFING THE STAT SHEET
Morehead State finished +22 in bench points, +10 in points off turnovers and +10 in second-chance points vs. Jacksonville State.  The Eagles also turned in a 27-21 rebounding edge, including 11-4 on the offensive end.

CRASHING THE BOARDS
Over the past 13 games, Morehead State is +128 total rebounds, +82 in offensive boards and +73 in second-chance points.  The Eagles have outrebounded 11 opponents during the stretch.

WEARING DOWN OPPONENTS
Morehead State owns a 757 (29.1) to 396 (15.2) edge in bench points this season.  The Eagle reserves have outscored their foes in 22 of 26 games.  MSU collected just 749 bench points (22.7) last year.

THE DIFFERENCE IN NUMBERS
Morehead State averages 74.5 points and is +7.6 in rebounds in 13 games (9-4) at Johnson Arena this season, but the Eagles average just 66.8 points and are +4.7 on the boards in 13 contests (3-10) away from the friendly confines.

OVC TEAM RANKINGS
Morehead State ranks in the Ohio Valley Conference’s top three in offensive rebounds (1st, 13.9), rebounding margin (1st, +5.6), steals (2nd, 9.6) and assists (3rd, 14.7).  The Eagles also place third in total attendance average (4,123).

SUCCESS AT JOHNSON ARENA
Morehead State has won 83 percent (59-12) of its games at Johnson Arena over the past five seasons, including 88 percent (36-5) in Ohio Valley Conference play.

IT’S ALWAYS GOOD TO BE HOME
Morehead State has split its first two games on the current homestand, with a loss to Eastern Kentucky on Feb. 9 and win over Jacksonville State on Feb. 14.  The Eagles wrap up the stretch on Wednesday vs. West Division-leading Murray State.
