Women's Cross Country

Cross Country/Track and Field Inks German Transfer

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Karina Manz, a transfer student-athlete from Germany, has signed a National Letter of Intent to run for Morehead State’s cross country and track and field program.

Manz, who transferred from Fulda University of Applied Sciences, will be a sophomore in 2013-14 and have three years of collegiate eligibility remaining. Fulda is located in central Germany approximately 70 miles from the major city of Frankfurt.

“We are excited to be adding Karina to a big incoming class of women’s distance runners,” Head Coach Brent Ericksen said. “Combined with the young group of freshmen we already have, the future looks much brighter as we continue to build this program from the bottom up.”

She has run the 800 meters up to the half marathon and holds personal records of 2:16 (800 meters), 4:42 (1,500 meters), 10:23 (3,000 meters), 17:46 (5,000 meters), and 1:24:25 (half marathon).

Manz finished second in the 1,500 meters at the National Youth Championships, second at the Baden-Württemberg State Cross Country championships, and second in the 5,000 meters at the Baden-Württemberg State Track Championships.

“I expect Karina to make an immediate impact in both cross country and track & field,” Ericksen said. “On the track, she will likely turn her attention to the 10,000 meters.”

Manz is the sixth addition to the women’s program as she’ll join Mackenzie Butler (Newark, Ohio), Hannah Bailey (Beavercreek, Ohio), Alyssa Shifflett (Shepherdsville, Ky.) and sisters Haley and Hannah Mullins (LaGrange, Ky.).
