INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Sophomore Jesse Moreno broke a 39-year-old school record, and junior Desmond Bell claimed top honors in the 800-meter race to highlight Morehead State's track and field performances at the Butler Bulldog Opener Saturday.
Moreno won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:22.95, which broke Mike Becraft's previous school mark of 8:23.60 set in 1975. Junior Gary Monroe finished second in the race with a personal-best time of 8:23.43, which also topped Becraft's former record.
For the Eagle women's squad, freshman Karina Manz recorded MSU's highest finish. One of 12 MSU competitors in the race, she took fifth place in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:04.54.
Sophomore Jasmyn Andrews clocked a sixth-place time in the 800-meter run at 2:23.12.
Bell, the reigning Ohio Valley Conference champion in the 800-meter event, crossed the line in 1:55.66. Sophomore Clay Dixon also ran a collegiate personal-best time in the event at 1:57.50.
The men's 4x400 relay team, consisting of Dixon, Bell, sophomore Wes Morris and freshman Orlando Frazier, claimed second place.
Morehead State is back in action next weekend at the Raleigh Relays.
