Childers, Gil-Juarez Pace Men at OVC T&F Championships

RESULTS

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State junior Alex Morris claimed the gold medal Saturday for the women's 5,000-meter run to highlight the men's and women's track and field teams' efforts at the 2015 Ohio Valley Conference Championships at Austin Peay.

Morris motored around the track in 17:03.97 to edge second-place Vallery Korir from Murray State by two seconds. She is the fifth Morehead State women's athlete to win the OVC 5K in program history and the first since Karen Lutes in 2002. She also becomes the 12th individual OVC champion in program history.

Sophomore Hannah Bailey also garnered a point for the Eagles with an eighth-place showing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:49.84.

The Morehead State men were led by junior Evan Childers who took sixth place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Childers clocked the event in 9:34.71. Junior Jorge-Gil Juarez finished eighth in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 15:09.71.

The conference championships concluded the 2015 campaign, the first under Head Coach Stephen Picucci.
