Eagle runners both take fourth place at Queen City Invite

MOREHEAD, Ky. --
Led by top-15 finishes from four athletes, the Morehead State men's and women's cross country teams opened their seasons with fourth place showings at the Queen City Invitational Saturday.

The men were fourth of 12 while the women were fourth of 14. On the men's side, senior Jorge Gil-Juarez crossed the tape in fifth place, his best showing as an Eagle. Gil-Juarez ran the 6K course in 18:46.0. Running right at his heels, senior Evan Childers was sixth at 18:46.7.

For the women, freshman Kansas Greenwell turned in a 10th place effort in her first collegiate meet, covering the 6K course in 23:12.6. Junior Mackenzie Butler was only six seconds behind, finishing 12th at 23:18.2. Senior Krystal Williams also cracked the top 20, coming across in 19th place at 23:27.1.

Freshman Justin Moakler turned in a top-25 effort, timing the course in 19:15.4. Fellow women's freshman Gloria Corona-Luna also took 25th place at 23:32.6.

All five of the men's team who scored points finished in the top 30. Four of the women's scorers had top-25 performances.

Both teams will be back in action at the Bluegrass Invitational in Lexington Saturday.
