Live StatsMOREHEAD, Ky. - The Morehead State men's basketball team looks to get back on the winning track when they host Tennessee Tech on Thursday night in a pivotal OVC match-up. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
The Eagles enter the contest at 9-8 overall and 3-2 in the OVC. They are coming off of back-to-back overtime contests.
On Thursday night at SIUE, the Eagles won their first overtime game of the season, 70-67, after rallying back from a 17-point first half deficit. They followed that with an overtime loss at EIU on Saturday, 84-82. It marked the first time that the Eagles have played two consecutive overtime games since the 2012-13 season. On Feb. 20, 2013, they lost a double-overtime thriller vs. Murray State, 106-100, and followed that with an overtime loss to Oakland, 82-79.
Last year, the Eagles played in two overtime games, going 0-2 in losses at home against Oakland and at UT Martin.
Junior guard
Corban Collins scored a career-high 28 points in the loss at EIU. He was 10-of-16 from the floor and set a season-high with five made three-pointers.
He leads MSU with 12.8 points, 3.5 assists and 33.1 minutes per game. His plus/minus is +100, which ranks second on the team and he has scored in double digits in 12 of 17 games. His assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.6 ranks second in the OVC.
The Eagles rank second in the OVC, shooting 38.4 percent from three-point range. They have the fewest three-point attempts, 279, in the league and are tied for seventh with 107 made threes. Collins leads MSU with 35 made three-pointers and is shooting 42.7 percent from deep, which ranks sixth in the OVC.
The Golden Eagles are 13-6 on the year and 5-1 in OVC play. They started the season off at 1-2, but are 12-4 since. Their lone OVC loss came at UT Martin, 96-90. The only common non-conference opponent with Morehead State is East Tennessee State, as TTU beat ETSU at home, 63-61. TTU leads the OVC in scoring margin (+6.7), free throw percentage (.752), and blocked shots (4.3).
They are led by senior guard Torrance Rowe, who averages a team-high 16.7 points, which ranks fourth in the OVC. He ranks third in the OVC with 47 made three-pointers and is shooting 36 percent from deep.
Morehead State leads the all-time series with TTU, 80-64. The Eagles have won three straight, including two wins a year ago. On Jan. 22 at TTU, the Eagles won, 78-74, as senior guard
Brent Arrington recorded a career-high 24 points, while shooting 13-of-14 from the free throw line. He also added eight rebounds. At home on Feb. 26, MSU won, 86-73, as Arrington, Collins, and Elechi all finished in double figures. The two teams first met in 1950, as Morehead State won, 59-57.
