MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State football (3-7, 2-5 Pioneer Football League) dropped a 27-21 heartbreaker to Campbell (5-4, 3-3 PFL) on senior day at Jayne Stadium.
"I'm very disappointed in the outcome," said head coach
Rob Tenyer. "I feel like this is a game that we could have won, and we just didn't execute. We had a lot of opportunities, but we just didn't make plays."
The Eagles held the Camels to just three third-down conversions in 14 attempts, and outgained Campbell 452-431 in yards of total offense. However, Morehead State's four turnovers proved to be the difference in a game where the Camels did not cough up the football.
"Our defense played outstanding," said Tenyer. "We had a little trouble stopping the run, but overall I thought they played well."
Senior linebacker
Ryan Bennett recorded 14 tackles, with four coming for loss. Quarterback
Austin Gahafer completed 19 of 38 passes for 364 yards, one touchdown, and an interception. His final performance at home put him over 3,000 yards on the season for the second consecutive year.
"It's an emotional day for our seniors," Tenyer said. "You want them to go out in style. We weren't able to do that today, which is disappointing."
Morehead State will end its season on Saturday, Nov. 19 with a game at Davidson (2-8, 0-7 PFL) at 1 p.m. The Eagles defeated the Wildcats 34-0 in 2015.
