MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State men's basketball picked up its second consecutive victory Sunday evening, defeating Lipscomb 89-75 at Johnson Arena.
"I'm proud of our guys," said head coach
Sean Woods. "We did what we needed to do against a complex team."
The Eagles were led by a balanced scoring attack that saw five players reach double-digit outputs. Senior
DeJuan Marrero headed the charge with a monstrous 17-point, 16-rebound double-double. The Gary, Ind. native's 16 boards bettered his previous career high of 13 and it marked his seventh career double-double.
"(Marrero) is our guy," Woods said. "He has to continue to own the backboards like that."
Morehead State dominated several statistical categories, including team rebounds (46-23), bench points (48-25), and points in the paint (42-16). The Eagles never trailed on the scoreboard.
Senior guard
Xavier Moon notched 12 points, while
Soufiyane Diakite,
Jordan Walker, and
Ronnye Beamon combined for 32 points off the bench.
The Eagles will spend their next three games on the road, starting with a trip to Huntington, W. Va. on Nov. 16. Morehead State is set to tip off with Marshall next Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET.
