MOREHEAD, Ky. --
Even though the Morehead State rifle team fell short against second-ranked Murray State Saturday at home, several shooters established personal bests in the shoulder-to-shoulder matchup.

Murray State, ranked No. 2 in the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association poll, finished with 4,700 to the Eagles' 4,603. The Racers set their school record in air rifle.

Junior Dan Hall tallied a personal-best combined score of 1,161, carding a personal-record 584 in smallbore (which was second among all match shooters). His smallbore kneeling total of 195 was also a personal standard for the Green Bay, Wis., native.

Freshman Alexa Potts set personal bests for combined (1150), smallbore (572), smallbore standing (186) and smallbore kneeling (195). Her sister, Karly, established her personal record in smallbore standing at 187.

Finally, sophomore Brandon Bryer was the Eagles' best air rifle shooter today, nailing down a personal-best 584. Juniors Haley Wilson and Joe Fischer notched 581's in air, and Karly Potts had a 580.

A quad-match at VMI is up next for the Eagles next Saturday in Virginia. VMI, North Georgia and Wofford are also shooting. Morehead State has already defeated VMI and North Georgia this year in head-to-head competition.
