Men's Tennis comes up short in season finale

MOREHEAD, Ky.—In the final match of the regular season Morehead State men's tennis fell 4-3 to Eastern Illinois on Saturday afternoon at Sadler Courts.

The Eagles (6-11, 5-4) celebrated three seniors in Garrett Mandrell, Nick Mercer, and Enrique Samudio as each played in the afternoon affair.

Mercer picked up his second straight win and his sixth win of the season by defeating Rui Silva in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.

Both Mandrell and Samudio came up short in their assigned matches.

Junior Ritchie Kruunenberg put away Robert Skolik in straight sets 7-5, 6-4, marking his third win in his last four matches going into the Ohio Valley Conference tournament.

The Panthers (4-15, 2-7) picked up the doubles point to start the day, but senior Gabriel Ruiz and Kruunenberg remain undefeated in doubles play as their match went unfinished.

The OVC tournament will start on Friday in Nashville at the Centennial Sportsplex Tennis Center. The bracket has not yet been released with times and opponents.
