MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State women's basketball (13-3, 3-0 Ohio Valley Conference) defeated Eastern Illinois (5-10, 1-2 OVC) 66-62 on Thursday night at Johnson Arena, en route to the Eagles' eighth straight victory.
"We're happy to win," said head coach
Greg Todd. "Any game like that builds character. Give Eastern Illinois a lot of credit."
The Eagles were down by 12 points as early as the first quarter, playing from behind for most of the contest. While Eastern Illinois led for almost 33 total minutes, the Panthers did not score a point over the final three minutes of play.
Miranda Crockett led the way for Morehead State, pouring in a season-high 20 points on 9-for-14 (.643) shooting, complemented by six rebounds and three steals.
"
Miranda Crockett was just very active," Todd said. "I'm pleased with the way she helped get the win tonight."
Junior forward
Brooke Todd recorded 10 points, nine boards, and three blocks in 25 minutes off the bench.
Brianna McQueen scored 13, and
Shay Steele's 12-point, nine-rebound stat line rounded out the Eagles' double-digit scorers. After being honored during Thursday's pregame ceremony for joining Morehead State's 1,000-point club earlier this season, Steele's one block on the evening moved the senior forward to No. 3 on the school's all-time blocks list.
Morehead State will return to action when SIU Edwardsville (5-10, 1-1 OVC) visits Johnson Arena on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live on the
