MOREHEAD, Ky. – A 18-5 second-half run by the Morehead State men's basketball team separated the host Eagles en route to a 103-56 victory over NAIA in-state foe Alice Lloyd on Thursday at Johnson Arena.
Â
Morehead State stayed perfect at home (2-0) and moved to 2-5 on the season, while the ALC Eagles slipped to 7-2.
Â
"We started to wear them down in the second half, but give them credit. Alice Lloyd has a good team that will win a lot of games in their league," said head coach
Preston Spradlin. "We still came out a little flat tonight, and we're seven games in and still doing that, so that needs to be addressed. But I thought we got on the boards and shared the ball well in the second half."
Â
Sophomore guard
Djimon Henson registered a career-high 23 points on the strength of an 8-for-10 night shooting and a trio of triples. He was one of five Eagles in double figures as junior forward
Lamontray Harris notched his first double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Morehead State held a lopsided rebounding edge, 62-18.
Â
Sophomore guard
Jordan Walker added 14 points and a career-best seven assists, while freshman forward
Malek Green turned in 12 markers. Junior guard
Trell Thompson got into the act with 10 points.
Â
Alice Lloyd kept the game close in the opening half before Morehead State grabbed a 46-34 lead at the break. But, the home team pushed a 49-34 lead to 67-39 following Harris' fast-break dunk at 13:40. MSU went on to lead by as many as 47.
Â
Morehead State also handed out a season-high 26 assists and shot 57 percent (38-of-67) from the field. MSU also hit 17-of-21 from the free throw line and held ALC to 0-for-10 from three-point range in the second half when it outscored its foe 57-22.
Â
The Eagles will travel to Northern Kentucky for a 7 p.m. ET Saturday night contest.
