RICHMOND, Ky. – On the heels of a late-game comeback effort that came up just short, Morehead State women's basketball (18-7, 8-4 Ohio Valley Conference) fell at Eastern Kentucky (9-16, 6-6 OVC) by a final score of 65-58.
The Eagles ended the first quarter shooting just 3-of-15 (.200) from the field, managing only eight points in the process. The second period continued in a similar fashion, as Morehead State found itself down 36-21 at halftime. Eastern Kentucky led by as many as 17 before the break.
With under five minutes remaining in the third quarter, however, MSU began a 21-7 run that carried into the game's final period. The Eagles surged back to a 54-52 score with 4:15 to play, but ultimately failed to cut the margin any closer.
Redshirt-senior
Brianna McQueen led Morehead State with 24 points off the bench, in addition to two steals, two rebounds, and a block. The 5-foot-3 guard sank a perfect 10-of-10 attempts from the free throw line.
Shay Steele was the only other Eagle to score in double-digits, finishing with 11 points in 20 minutes before fouling out.
Eriel McKee tallied seven points, six boards, three assists, and a steal, while
Darianne Seward logged four assists and four steals.
Morehead State moves to 3-3 in conference road games, dropping its first contest since Jan. 28. The Eagles will retake the floor on Wednesday, hosting Tennessee State at 6 p.m. ET. The Lady Tigers defeated Morehead State 69-66 on Jan. 11 in Nashville, Tenn.
