GADSDEN, Ala. – A pair of top-ten finishes propelled Morehead State women's golf to a third-place finish at the Chris Banister Classic. During the three-day event, the Eagles posted scores of 309-307-312-928 to shoot 64-over.
"This week has been a great challenge for all the teams with quite a few tough pin placements," said head coach
Stephanie Barker. "I feel like we navigated the majority of the course quite well and know what we need to improve on."
Sophomore
Gypsie Hutchinson continued her strong start to the season, placing sixth in the field of 49 players. Hutchinson carded a career-low 70 in Sunday's first-round, finishing the event carding 70-75-79-224 to finish at eight-over.
Freshman
Barbara Roether carded scores of 80-73-75-228 to finish eighth to give the Eagles two top-ten performers for the first time since 2015-16. Roether's second-round 73 and three-day total of 228 marked career-lows.
"I'm really proud of our team for fighting hard for every shot, and Gypsie and Barbara for their top-ten finishes this week," added Barker.
Junior Ana Dieguez finished tied for 26th, shooting 82-79-79-240. Senior
Sarah Debnekoff finished tied for 33rd, carding scores of 77-85-81-243. Senior
Ebba Gustafsson (87-80-79-246) rounded out the Eagles lineup, finishing tied for 36th.
Morehead State returns to action Monday, when they travel to Clarksville, Tenn. to compete in the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, hosted by fellow-Ohio Valley Conference member Austin Peay.
