MOREHEAD, Ky. – Despite winning the turnover battle by a near double-digit margin, Morehead State women's basketball (11-6, 2-2 Ohio Valley Conference) fell to SIUE (7-8, 4-0 OVC) by a final score of 66-51 on Saturday afternoon at Johnson Arena.
The Eagles struggled to find the bottom of the net, recording a new season-low in final points. Morehead State heaved 67 attempts from the field, 20 more than its opponent. Three-point shooting proved to be the difference, though, as SIUE knocked down 6-of-11 (.545) from beyond the arc and the Eagles netted just 2-of-15 (.133).
Poor shooting notwithstanding, Morehead State surrendered 13 turnovers to the Cougars' 22, amassing a 29-17 advantage in subsequent points. The Eagles were outrebounded for only the third time all season, and were outscored off the bench, 29-4.
It was, however, a day to remember for senior forward
Brooke Todd, who reached a new individual milestone in the loss. The 6-foot-2 former Paul Laurence Dunbar High School (Ky.) standout grabbed seven rebounds and swatted two shots, tying Tasha Gales for the second-highest career blocks total in Morehead State history with 205 over a four-year span.
Junior guard
Miranda Crockett led the Eagles in scoring, notching 15 and grabbing five boards. Redshirt junior
Darianne Seward was the only other MSU player to score in double-digits, logging 13 points and three steals before fouling out late in the fourth quarter.
Morehead State will hit the road for two games next week, starting with an approximately 400-mile venture westward. The Eagles tip off at Southeast Missouri on Thursday at 6:15 p.m. ET.
