MOREHEAD, Ky. – Entering the program's third season of play and the first season of Atlantic Sun Conference play, Morehead State beach volleyball welcomes two additions in its 2020 signing class.
Trinity Miller (Fairfield, Ohio) and Anya Reinhard (Tarpon Springs, Fla.) comprise beach volleyball's second signing class and will compete in beach-only competition for the Eagles during the 2020 season. Both newcomers will be freshmen during the 2019-20 academic year.
Miller and Reinhard will join Morehead State's inaugural signing class—Hannah Keating, Hannah Mabry, and Margaret Musselman—to continue building the foundation for the Eagles' flourishing program.
"Anya and Trinity embody exactly what you want from a student-athlete," said head coach
Jaime Gordon. "They excel at the highest levels both in the classroom and in the sand. They are high character individuals that make people around them better. They both have great minds for the game and are constantly smiling. As we continue to build a foundation for our beach program, I could not ask for two better people to join our current roster to continue this journey."
Miller joins the Morehead State program after competing for the Ohio Valley Beach program and head coach Rob Long. She joins Keating and Musselman as former Ohio Valley Beach alums making a home with the Eagles. For three straight years, Miller has qualified for the USA Nationals in beach volleyball while also qualifying for the Volley America Nationals this past year. She qualified for the Volley America Nationals after taking first place in a qualifying event in St. Augustin, Fla.
In addition to her success on the sand, Miller is also a qualified indoor player, serving as an outside hitter for Fairfield (Ohio) High School for head coach Jay Bauer. She claimed Great Miami Conference First Team honors after recording a .248 hitting percentage and 256 kills as a senior. Miller also added 269 digs, 63 service aces, 26 total blocks, and 13 assists during her senior campaign.
In the classroom, Miller received Fairfield volleyball's academic achievement award while winning the high school's Golden Achievement Award during each academic year for maintaining a grade point average of 4.0 or higher. Additionally, she's assisted in ensuring her team's recognition with Fairfield High School's All-Academic Award for maintaining a team GPA of 3.5 or higher. Miller is also an active member of the National Honor Society.
"Trinity is such an amazing person. She is an outstanding partner that does a great job adapting to the needs of her partner," added Gordon. "She has some of the best hands in the entire 2019 recruiting class, but also a great jump on how to set her partner for someone entering college. She has great court presence and a drive to do what is required for her to improve."
Reinhard comes to Morehead State from the Ocala Power beach program, competing under head coach Chris Hamilton. In the past two seasons, she has qualified for a pair of national beach volleyball events. As a sophomore, Reinhard qualified for the RoxVB Championship, advancing to the quarterfinals in the event's 16u Silver Division.
As an indoor player, Reinhard played for head coach Patrick Sneed at Tarpon Springs (Fla.) High School. As a senior, she led the Spongers to an FHSAA Class 6A Region 3 title, advancing to the state semifinal round during the FHSAA State Tournament. Reinhard recorded 252 kills as an outside hitter during her final campaign while also adding 44 service aces and 16 blocks. In addition to her team's success this season, she has also helped Tarpon Springs to a pair of district titles and a regional runner-up finish during her high school career.
Off the court, Reinhard has received Academic Honors from Tarpon Springs High School during each of her high school academic years. She's also a member of the high school's Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) program. The AICE program, developed by the renowned University of Cambridge, provides high-quality academic curriculum to prepare students for post-secondary education.
"Anya is a brilliant individual with an incredible balance of analysis and creativity to her game," Gordon said. "She is a constant learner which helps her be adaptive in the sand. She does a really good job of taking on different roles based on her partner's strengths and weaknesses. She possesses a positive outlook on life and has a very magnetic personality. I think that her game is going to make some great strides and will be a force to contend with on the beach!"
