MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Looking to finish the 2017-18 campaign on a strong note, the Morehead State men's basketball team will get back to action Thursday night at Tennessee State. Game time is 8:30 p.m. ET at the Gentry Center in Nashville.
The Tigers (14-11/9-5) topped the Eagles (6-19/2-12) by just three points in Johnson Arena on Feb. 1. MSU will look to halt a six-game losing skid. The game will be on the OVC Digital Network as well as WIVY-96.3 FM and MSUEagles.com.
The Eagles will remain in Nashville following the action to play at Belmont Saturday in a contest that will be televised nationally by CBS Sports Network.
GAME NOTES
THE TENNESSEE STATE SERIES
Morehead State holds a 37-33 advantage in the series with Tennessee State. The Tigers escaped Morehead State with a three-point win on Feb. 1. The last win for the Eagles at Tennessee State was in 2014-15.
THREE-POINT STREAK MOVES AHEAD
Morehead State has made at least one three-pointer in 368 consecutive games, dating back to Feb. 13, 2007 when the Eagles had an 0-for-17 day versus Jacksonville State.
GETTING TO THE STRIPE
Sophomore guard
Jordan Walker has made his way to the free throw line for 23 attempts just in the last two games. He has drilled 17 free tosses in that span. From Nov. 30 to Dec. 30, Walker nailed 26 consecutive free throws.
JOIN THE CLUB
Jordan Walker is on the verge of 500 points for his career. He enters today's game with 499 career points in 55 games, or 9.1 per outing.
HOMETOWN SUPPORT
A check of the OVC home attendance leaders this season reveals the Eagles rank second in the league with a 2,913 average among 10 home games. That's only behind Murray State.
COOPER IS SUPER
Freshman guard
De'Von Cooper has been outstanding when he gets to the free throw line. Cooper shoots 83 percent but does not have enough attempts to qualify for the league rankings. He has hit 24 of his 29 free throws. He was also en fuego from the three-point line Saturday at EKU, hitting all three from outside the arc.
CLOSE CALLS
Despite its 12 conference setbacks, Morehead State has dropped 10 of them by 10 points or less. Overall this season, the Eagles are 3-7 in games decided by five points or less.
100 DIMES
Junior guard
A.J. Hicks has dished out 101 assists this season, averaging 4.0 per game. Hicks boasts 10 games where he has dished out at least five helpers.
SHARP SHOOTER
Sophomore guard
Djimon Henson is the Eagles' most accurate three-point shooter, hitting 38 percent of shots behind the arc. That would rank him in the top 15 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
WE'VE BEEN PRETTY GOOD LATELY
Since 2008-09, Morehead State has had five 20-win campaigns and made five postseason appearances (2 NCAA, 3 CBI). The Eagles advanced to the championship series of the CBI in 2015-16, taking Nevada to the final game of the three-game set before falling.
