McKee scores season-high 22 as women's basketball falls at No. 24 Belmont

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Despite a season-high 22 points from senior forward Eriel McKee, Morehead State women's basketball (19-10, 10-6 Ohio Valley Conference) dropped an 80-56 decision to No. 24 Belmont (26-3, 16-0 OVC) in its last road contest of the 2017-18 regular season.

Falling behind 18-6 after the opening period, Morehead State bounced back to outscore the Bruins 18-17 in the second. Down 35-24 at half, the Eagles cut the deficit to as low as seven in the third quarter. However, Belmont entered the fourth with a 53-36 lead, then outdueled Morehead State 27-20 in the game's most prolific scoring quarter.

McKee's 22 points were reached on 7-of-13 (.538) shooting from the floor, 2-for-3 (.667) attempts from three-point range, and 6-of-9 (.667) shooting from the foul line. The former Anderson County (Ky.) standout added five rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and three steals on the day.

Miranda Crockett was the only other Eagle to score in double-figures, notching 12 points, four boards, three assists, and two steals. Morehead State was bested 18-15 in second-chance points, but won the turnover battle, 18-14.

The Eagles return to Johnson Arena next week, ending the regular season with a two-game home stand. Morehead State welcomes UT Martin on Thursday at 5:15 p.m. ET. The Eagles defeated the Skyhawks 81-76 in overtime on Jan. 13.
