Men's basketball ends season with two straight wins in 70-66 victory over EKU

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State men's basketball concluded its 2017-18 campaign with back-to-back wins, capped off by a 70-66 victory over Ohio Valley Conference and in-state foe Eastern Kentucky on Saturday afternoon at Johnson Arena.
 
After trailing for the first 19:56 of the game, sophomore guard Jordan Walker scored a layup to beat the first-half buzzer and give the Eagles a 28-27 advantage.
 
Morehead State began the second half with flawless offensive execution. The Eagles made 8-of-8 shots from the field during a 10-0 stretch that expanded its lead to 51-40 with 11:16 remaining in the game.
 
The Colonels didn't go lightly, though, and were able to cut the lead to 65-64 following a pair of makes from the free throw line with 1:51 to go.
 
However, the Eagles pulled away for good on the following Eastern Kentucky possession. Lamontray Harris rejected a layup attempt from EKU's DeAndre Dishman, whle MSU sophomore Djimon Henson followed with a fadeaway jumper in the lane to put the Eagles ahead by three with 1:01 left on the clock.
 
Morehead State made 15-of-29 (.517) from the field in the final half and shot 27-of-63 (.429) overall.
 
Walker spearheaded the Eagles' offensive attack with 23 points, dropping in 17 in the second half. The 6-foot-0 guard finished the game shooting 9-of-13 (.692) overall from the field and 3-of-5 (.600) from three-point territory. The 23-point output tied a season-high in Walker's sophomore campaign.
 
Harris, a 6-foot-7 junior, closed the season by recording his sixth double-double. The Louisville, Ky. product scored 15 points and snatched 12 boards.
 
Junior A.J. Hicks was close behind Walker in scoring, finishing with 19 points while also collecting eight rebounds, including six in the offensive category.
 
"My team showed a lot of grit, a lot of discipline, and a lot of maturity the way it approached this game," said head coach Preston Spradlin. "They did a lot of that for our fans because they understand the wonderful support they get here."
 
In Spradlin's first full season, Morehead State finished 8-21 overall and 4-14 in OVC.
