MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State men's basketball will get a second chance at Southeast Missouri when the Eagles host the Redhawks on Thursday. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. ET following the women's contest.
MSU narrowly dropped a 78-75 decision to SEMOÂ on the road on Jan. 11. The Redhawks are 10-15 overall and 4-8 in the OVC. However, due to an NCAA historical academic penalty, the program will not be able to compete in the OVC Tournament this season. Morehead State enters at 6-17 overall and 2-10 in the league.
The game will be carried live on the OVC Digital Network, as well as WIVY-96.3 FM and MSUEagles.com.
GAME NOTES
THE SOUTHEAST MISSOURI SERIES
Morehead State has enjoyed tremendous success recently against Southeast Missouri and leads the overall series 29-18. Prior to the three-point loss at SEMO on Jan. 11, MSU had won six in a row against the Redhawks. In fact, the Eagles have won 14 of the last 16 matchups in the last 10 seasons (since 2007-08).
THREE-POINT STREAK LIVES
Morehead State has made at least one three-pointer in 366 consecutive games, dating back to Feb. 13, 2007 when the Eagles had an 0-for-17 day versus Jacksonville State.
TURNOVER DILEMMA
Morehead State averages nearly 17 turnovers per game, but the Eagles have had five games of 11 or fewer turnovers. Interestingly enough, MSU is 0-5 in those games. On the other hand, the team has committed 20 or more mistakes in six games but is 4-2 on those nights.
GOOD ON THE GLASS
Morehead State has been especially solid on the offensive glass this season. The Eagles rank second in the conference in boards off the offensive glass with 11.9 per game.
HOMETOWN SUPPORT
A check of the OVC home attendance leaders this season reveals the Eagles rank second in the league with a 2,873 average among 10 home games. That's only behind Murray State.
NOT MUCH WIGGLE ROOM
The Eagles boast four double-figure scorers on average and amazingly all four are within 1.1 points of each other.
Jordan Walker leads the way with 11.1, while junior guard
A.J. Hicks is nearly right behind at 10.0.
Lamontray Harris and
Djimon Henson are within 0.1 of a point at 11.0 and 10.9.
WE'RE A SECOND HALF TEAM
MSU has a significant difference in its scoring output this season. The Eagles have notched 703 (30.5) points in the first halves, but they have increased their production to 906 (39.3) in the final 20-minute periods. The Eagles have eclipsed 50 points in a half three times this season, twice in the second half.
DISHING THOSE DIMES
Junior guard
A.J. Hicks has dished out at least one assist in all 23 games this season and leads the Eagles with 4.0 helpers per outing.
BOMBS AWAY
Since the last time the Eagles met SEMO eight games ago, Morehead State has only made less than seven three-pointers in a game once. The Eagles dropped in 10 triples last Saturday against Belmont and are averaging seven made three-balls per outing.
